What are the new storage limits?
A 20GB quota(limit) will be instituted for all new Google Workspace user accounts, and a 5Gb quota(limit) for all new Shared Drives.
When will this change take place?
This change in service will take effect on November 30, 2024.
As Google no longer provides educational institutions with free unlimited storage and now caps the Google Workspace for Education the University must now manage the amount of storage it utilizes.
- Google Drive: Users will not be able to sync or upload new files. Users will not be able to create new files in Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, and Forms: Until storage usage is reduced, users cannot edit or copy affected files. Forms will also stop collecting responses. Syncs between the computer's Google Drive folder and My Drive will stop.
- Google Meet: Users will not be able to record new meetings.
- Google Photos: Users will not be able to upload photos and videos in Original or Storage Saver quality.
- Classroom:
- If a teacher's storage is full: teachers will not able to create assignments with new files that they haven't yet uploaded or created, teachers can't export grades to Google Sheets, students can't turn in assignments with file attachments
- If a student's storage is full: students can't access files in Assignments that prompt the student to make a copy
- Google Workspace for Education account: Users will still be able to sign in and access their view and download their files.
