International Education Week 2022 Event Calendar

11/14, 11:30 to 1 pm Opening Ceremony  Join us for an opening ceremony that will feature
  • Opening remarks and introduction to International Education Week
  • A dance performance choreographed by CSUEB student Zia Smith-Oligbinde accompanied by Prof. Eric Kupers 
  • A Chinese yo-yo demonstration by Prof. Li-Ling Chen (some students may get to try it as well!)
  • A chance to learn about a variety of countries and cultures where our international students are from- with presentations by members of the Hindu Yuva Club, Pilipinx-American Student Association, and students in the American Language Program.
  • a boxed lunch will be served at 1pm while supplies last

11/15, 11 to 12 pm Employment Options after OPT Karen Ling, Faculty Immigration Advisor/Recruitment Specialist in the Office of Academic Affairs, will explain H1B visas and other employment options for international students after completing OPT. VBT 124 Career
11/15, 12 to 1 pm Work/Study in Japan Learn about opportunities to study or work in Japan, including through the JET (Japan Exchange and Teaching) program. Kai Wiesner-Hanks and Steven Goldman from the Japanese Consulate will highlight scholarships and job opportunities. (streaming live in CORE Mountain Lion room) Academic & Career
11/15 3:30-4:15pm Study Abroad Info Session (for undergraduate students) Learn about all the places you can go to get a cultural experience and academic credit while studying abroad. During the information session, we explore program websites, discuss scholarships and finances, give an overview of the application process, and hear from study abroad and NSE alumni. Attending an information session does not commit you to study abroad but it does give you the tools to find the program that best fits your academic and financial needs. Academic
11/16 11:30-12pm Global Studies for International Careers CSUEB Global Studies Program, presented by Dr. Michael Lee, will include an overview of the program and a close examination of the international career pathways.

11/16 12-1pm Understanding International Career Recruiting FlyHigh Talent CEO Gary Xie (CSUEB Alumnus and former international student from China) is giving an insider look into the current employment market as to the current job opportunities both domestically and internationally. He will also elaborate on the services provided by his recruiting company.
Lunch will be served during the presentation.

11/16, 12:30-2pm Japanese Tea Ceremony Come observe a traditional Japanese tea ceremony. Tea master Eiko Mouri, will explain the meaning behind Japanese tea ceremonies (with an explainer video) and perform a tea ceremony with ten participants in Yakata dress. Co-host with Modern Languages and Literature Department. 11/17, 10-11:45am  Peace Corps info session The , an independent agency and program of the United States government that trains and deploys U.S. citizens to provide international development assistance, is recruiting for international volunteer positions. Kerry Carmichael, a Peace Corps Recruiter, is providing an info session to show motivated U.S. citizen changemakers how they can immerse themselves in a community abroad, working side by side with local leaders to tackle the most pressing challenges of our generation.   UU MPR-A Volunteer & Career
11/17, 12 to 2 pm Closing Ceremony and Thanksgiving Lunch Join us for special performances and a holiday meal.  
  • Bollywood style dance presentation by the Hindu-Yuva club
  • Filipino Hip-hop perfomed by Pilipinx American Student Association
  • Japanese Taiko drums - Prof. Eric Kupers, CSUEB Theater & Dance extraordinaire, will brief us on the history of Seiryo Taiko Drums and performs two music pieces with his students
UU MPR Cultural/Social
11/17, 1-2pm Fulbright U.S. Student Program Information Session Information Session.  Fulbright offers opportunities for U.S. citizens to pursue fully funded graduate study, conduct research, or teach English overseas. During the session, the types of Fulbright awards, application components, and tips will be given. Following the program overview, attendees gather in a CSUEB breakout room to discuss the campus application process.   virtual- Please register in advance
