The Cal State East Bay swim team has been named a College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America Team for the fall of 2016. This is the seventh straight year the Pioneers have captured Scholar All-America honors.
Cal State East Bay is one of a record 394 colleges and universities across the nation to earn the award, which recognizes swim and dive teams whose athletes have achieved at least at 3.0 grade point average for the 2016 Fall quarter/semester.
Coach Shane Pelton said the women have worked hard this quarter, and deserve the recognition.
"This program has had a high standard of excellence in recent years, so we had a lot to live up to," Pelton said. “But in my first quarter with this team, I have been so impressed by their dedication to achieving success in the classroom."
The Pioneers accumulated a 3.14 GPA as a team this past winter, placing them among the top squads in the West Region. Cal State East Bay is one of six schools in the Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference to earn Scholar All-America honors, joining Alaska Fairbanks, Azusa Pacific, Concordia-Irvine, UC San Diego and Fresno Pacific.
Cal State East Bay swimmers are now preparing for the PCSC Championships event at East Los Angeles College, where the Pioneers have finished as runners-up to UCSD three of the last four seasons.
