State Senator Bob Wieckowski (D-Fremont) will honor three awardees including Stan Hebert III, Cal State East Bay’s associate vice president of parent and community relations on Feb. 24 as part of his celebration of Black History Month.

The two other honorees will be the Afro-American Cultural & Historical Society of the Tri-City Area and Hayward, and Margaret Jackson, founder of Business on the Edge. San Francisco Supervisor Malia Cohen will make opening remarks and Alameda County Supervisor Wilma Chan will also speak at the event.

“This year’s honorees all share a strong desire to lift people up through mentoring, education and building community networks,” Wieckowski said in a statement. “Over the years, they have brought people together to share their history, build upon their experiences and empower each other to achieve their goals.”

Hebert has worked at CSUEB since 2007 where he developed the Kaleidoscope Student Mentoring Program and co-founded the Sankofa Scholars learning community for transfer students. The Afro-American Cultural & Historical Society, founded in 1974, provides a vehicle for people to engage in educational and cultural activities and to network with other multi-ethnic groups in the region. Jackson hosts a live weekly radio show called “Money 2.0 Business on the Edge with Margaret Jackson,” owns a small business coaching company and is a frequent seminar speaker.

The ceremony will take place Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the San Lorenzo Library, 395 Paseo Grande.
