Office of Research and Sponsored Programs Announces 2017-18 Grant Winners

Ranging from explorations into how MRI can be used to understand food-born pathogens to the development of future religious studies at Cal State East Bay, the university’s Office of Research and Sponsored Programs recently announced that four faculty members and one staff member will be receiving grants for various projects and programming in the 2017-18 school year. According Jeffery Seitz, associate vice president of ORSP, recipients were awarded the grants due to the high quality of their proposals, relevance of each project’s goal and the confidence that each sponsor has in the recipient’s ability to complete the proposed work.
The most recent awardees include:
PROFESSOR CAROL RUDD LAUZON, DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES
Lauzon has received a $127,585 grant from the USDA for a project entitled “Developing a Magnetic Resonance Imaging-based Novel Method to Better Understand the Mechanism of Internalization of Foodborne Pathogens in Fresh and Fresh-cut Produce.”
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR CHRISTOPHER MOREMAN, DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY
Moreman has received a $99,900 grant from the National Endowment for Humanities for a project entitled “Faculty Seminar to Develop Interdisciplinary Religious Studies Programming.”
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR PATRICK HUANG, DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY
Huang has received a $35,144 grant from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for a project entitled “Environmental Chemistry of Actinides from First-Principles Simulations.”
ANDREA WILSON, DEPARTMENT OF STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES
Wilson has received a $33,291 grant for a project entitled “CalFresh Outreach,” which will benefit Cal State East Bay’s Pioneers for HOPE program.
ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR FARZAD SHAHBODAGHLOU, DEPARTMENT OF ENGINEERING
Shahbodaghlou has received a $20,000 grant from the Construction Employers’ Association for a project entitled ”CEA Construction Management Program.”
