More than 350 K-12 educators are expected at the fourth annual California Teacher’s Summit this Friday at Cal State East Bay to discuss the importance of meeting students’ needs and personalized learning. The university is one of more than 30 college campuses hosting the statewide event.
“Better Together is a great day to bring together teachers both new to the profession and veterans in order to have them collaborate, explore new ideas, honor all the great work they do for children and inspire them for the upcoming school year,” said Dr. Talya Kemper, assistant professor of education.
This year’s keynote speaker will be Sir Ken Robinson, who boasts the most-viewed TED Talk titled, “Do schools kill creativity?” From CSU Fullterton, Robinson will speak about the need for a learning revolution, making the case for a radical shift in education and his remarks will be simulcast to the other sites.
"Even if I didn't know how powerful Better Together is for teachers, I would be attending this year to hear the statewide keynote by Sir Ken Robinson," said Eric Engdahl, chair of the Cal State East Bay teacher education department. "He has one of the most popular TED talks of all time and is a deep thinker about the importance of creativity, imagination and innovation in education."
Other items on the day’s agenda include a pair of EdTalks, modeled after the popular TED Talks and EdCamps breakout sessions, opportunities for educators to further explore and discuss the challenges of teaching today.
Funded primarily by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the summit is a partnership between the California State University system, the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities, and the New Teacher Center.
The California Teachers Summit is free to all teachers, but registration is required. For more information about the event or to register visit .
