These are just a few examples of the many family-friendly, hands-on activities and demonstrations planned for  Oct. 27 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Cal State East Bay's Concord campus.

“It is amazing to see children have fun and be excited about science and technology,” said Erik Ruhe, a skills lab coordinator. “Nursing students and I will be putting on some hands-on activities with some of our high tech simulators and hope everyone will get to experience what it is like to be a nursing student. I hope the activities and experiences will stimulate their excitement about learning science and how things work.”

Contra Costa County Discovery Day is free to the public and a community effort organized by the Bay Area Science Festival, Cal State East Bay-Concord and the Institute for STEM Education. 

The event is part of the larger , a celebration of science, technology, engineering and math running from Oct. 26-Nov. 3. Other Discovery Days are being held at AT&T Park in San Francisco and the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa.
