The Cal State East Bay GANAS program was recently named a recipient for a national award given by the organization . According to the organization, Examples of Excelencia is the only national effort identifying and promoting "evidence-based practices that help accelerate Latino student success in higher education."
GANAS, a transfer student enrichment program, aims to increase the number of Latino transfer students who graduate with baccalaureate degrees. It has a 90 percent four-year graduation rate.
Excelencia gave out four awards this year, one in each of the following categories: associate, baccalaureate, graduate, and community-based organizations. Cal State East Bay took home the baccalaureate award and all winners were honored at an Oct. 11 event hosted in Washington, DC.
Eric Swalwell, the representative for the 15th congressional District of California congratulated the GANAS program in a letter.
“Education is an important tool that allows our students to grow and thrive in our community,” he said. “Its importance cannot be overstated. The dedication you demonstrate in pursuit of increasing graduation rates of Latinx students through the GANAS program is nothing short of admirable. I truly appreciate the contributions you make through your program.”
