Cal State East Bay was recognized as an international digital leader at Modo Labs’ fourth annual "Appademy Awards" for empowering students to become involved in the campus mobile app development process.
Through a partnership between ITS and ASI, Cal State East Bay enabled student leaders — regardless of technical abilities — to create and drive content strategy in the . As a result, the CSUEB Mobile App received the second place award for “Best Student-Driven App.” Nominees included UC Berkeley, Penn State University, Australian National University and more.
"It was exhilarating to see Cal State East Bay students rise up and work alongside the ITS Solutions Engineering team to create a mobile app using agile software development life cycle,” said Twinki Mistry, Director of Enterprise Information Services at Cal State East Bay. “It was hard to differentiate who were the students on this project because these students performed with the highest level of professionalism and technical acumen to create an app to increase student engagement with ASI. Such collaborative projects with students allow ITS to significantly improve the student learning experience and deliver innovative solutions designed and developed by the students at faster speed."
Brittney Golez and Brian Morales, who both graduated this past spring, were they key students involved in the app's development.
"In my experience as a student at CSUEB, I saw that there was a major disconnect between the amount of resources that were available to us, and which of those resources that students actually remembered to use," Golez said. "I knew that redesigning the CSUEB mobile app to make it more student focused would help alleviate some of the missing gaps of knowledge about our resources that the average student may not be aware of.
"There’s nothing more empowering than for others to understand your vision and help you navigate the tools to achieve it. By working closely with ITS and Modo Labs, we learned how different features and design concepts could achieve the goals I set for the student community of CSUEB."
