Lincoln's 200th birthday to be celebrated Feb. 12

The 200th birthday of America's 16th president will be commemorated when Gerald Henig, professor emeritus of history, presents "Abraham Lincoln: An Uncommon Common Man," at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 in the Biella Room of the University Library on the Hayward campus of California State University, East Bay.
The free lecture will be presented by the University Library in conjunction with the Department of History and the College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences. A book signing, reception and Library Open House will follow. Admission is free and the public is invited.
Henig, author of, "A Nation Transformed: How the Civil War Changed America Forever," will focus on how a common man from Illinois prairies achieved greatness by instituting a "new birth of freedom" for all Americans and preserved the first "people's government" in modern history.
A campus parking fee of $5 per vehicle per day is enforced at all times. Machines in lots take dollars and quarters.
