The California State University, East Bay Foundation, in partnership with Follett Higher Education Group, will host a grand opening of the newly renovated Pioneer Bookstore Monday, Jan. 26. The event is tied in with the beginning of Cal State East Bay's weeklong 2009 Homecoming.

A ribbon cutting ceremony, featuring remarks by Cal State East Bay President Mo Qayoumi, is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. in front of the bookstore.

"This is but the first of many milestones in the great partnership between this university and Follett," said Robert L. Gibson, Pioneer Bookstore director. "Cal State East Bay is a great university to work with and the bookstore staff members that transitioned to Follett just a few months ago are an outstanding group to work with."

Following the ribbon cutting ceremony, there will be an opportunity for the campus community to meet members of CSUEB's men's and women's basketball teams. The university's masacot, Pioneer Pete, will be available for photos at noon. The bookstore also will be providing free caricatures for customers throughout the day.

As part of its services, the bookstore will be hosting an author signing event at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27. That first author will be Emil Asadulla, who wrote "Islam vs. West: Fact or Fiction."
