New Web pages go live, complete first step in rebuild

  • April 1, 2009

As part of the University Web rebuild project, several new Cal State East Bay Web pages launched April 2, bringing to a close phase one of the plan. New Web pages making their debut include: the University home page, alumni, giving and news and events.

The Web rebuild project, which began in May, focused on creating navigation and information tailored to specific audiences, improving the look of the site, and a developing a consistent design and format that will give University Web pages a unified appearance and structure.

During the fall quarter, Cal State East Bay launched the first round of new University Web pages. The first pages to go live were: prospective students, current students, staff, about CSUEB, academic programs and online campus.

Feedback gathering during recent user testing of the new CSUEB Web pages was favorable. Users noted that the new Web pages are easy to navigate, provide information they need and present the University in a positive way.

"We’re thrilled that the recent user validation testing affirmed the hard work, planning and significant contributions of the audience sponsors, IT teams, and others across the University that went into developing these sites," said Raechelle Clemmons, director of IT Relationship Management and Project Services.

Among improvements made in development of the new Web pages was introduction of a new content management system.

"Each of these new pages uses a sophisticated content management system to ensure that news and events information appearing throughout the CSUEB Web site is kept fully up to date," said Jay Colombatto, associate vice president, University Communications.

The University next will move to phase II of the Web rebuild project by redesigning college, division, and department-level pages and sites using templates created for the project. In the second phase, improvements to top-level audience sites -- such as prospective students, faculty, current students, staff, and alumni -- will continue, based on information gathered through user testing and ongoing feedback from audience members and the campus community, Clemmons said.
