Golf tournament Aug. 26 benefits CSUEB athletic scholarships
- July 15, 2009
As Pioneer student athletes prepare for the coming seasons, their supporters will hit the links for the 13th Annual Cal State East Bay Golf Classic Wednesday, August 26 at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo.
Proceeds from the annual tournament benefit Cal State East Bay athletic scholarship funds. This event is the largest fundraiser for the athletic program, and is expected to raise up to $8000.
Following lunch and a “shotgun” start at 1 p.m., golfers will enjoy a full 18 holes as well as dinner, prizes, a raffle and an auction. Players and businesses can sponsor the tournament in various levels to demonstrate their support.
This year will be especially exciting, said Director of Athletics Debby De Angelis, because of the Pioneers' upcoming move to the NCAA Division II and the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
“This event is as much about friend raising as is about fundraising,” De Angelis said. “It is a great day of socializing and fun on the golf course for a great cause.”
Cal State East Bay will have a full Division II schedule for the 2009-10 athletic year, which begins in August with volleyball, men's and women's soccer and cross country. After the NCAA approves the Pioneers' “active status,” teams will be eligible for conference championships and NCAA postseason.
The registration deadline is Aug. 10; participants can register online at . Some of the sponsorships at every level are tax deductible. Golf is $195 per individual or $750 for a foursome. Sponsorships range from $200 to $4000.
