CARSON, Calif. - Though it held Cal State Dominguez Hills scoreless in the first half, the Cal State East Bay women's soccer team surrendered two goals in the second frame, falling to the Toros, 2-0, in Carson on Sunday afternoon. The Pioneers extended their current scoring drought to four matches, dropping to 3-10-3 overall and 2-8-2 in conference play.

Despite facing 11 shots in the opening frame, Cal State East Bay freshman keeper Nina Cefalo managed to hold Dominguez Hills scoreless through the opening 45 minutes, making two saves. On the other end, the Pioneers notched four shots but could not find the target, as Toros keeper Alyssa Congdon did not make any stops in the half.

Locked in a scoreless draw to open the second frame, Dominguez Hills continued to pound the Pioneer defense and finally broke through in the 59th minute. Makenzie Pedrotti notched her fourth goal of the season after collecting a loose ball and lofting a shot high over Cefalo. The score marked Pedrotti's fourth of the year and gave CSUDH the 1-0 lead.

With the goal advantage, the Toros managed to control possession and keep the Pioneers from taking a single shot in the second half. Exactly 10 minutes after taking the lead, Dominguez Hills found the back of the net again, as Britney Vance came up with the ball and beat Cefalo on the ground to give the Toros an insurance goal in the 69th minute.

Congdon made no saves in the shutout, getting help from a defense that held East Bay without a shot in the second half. Cefalo made four saves on Dominguez Hills' 22 shots in the loss. The Toros were led by Jessica Murphy's six shots, while four Pioneers notched one shot apiece.

With the road schedule now complete, the Pioneers return home for their four remaining games this season. Cal State East Bay will host rematches with Cal Poly Pomona and Cal State San Bernardino this weekend before closing out the slate against the Toros and Cal State LA on Oct. 30 and Nov. 1, respectively.
