Chico State Blanks Cal State East Bay in CCAA Opener

Four Chico State pitchers combined to throw a one-hit shutout as the Wildcats defeated the Pioneers 12-0 in the CCAA opener for both schools. A double by Stephen Gatehouse was the Pioneers lone hit.

Chico State scored four runs in the fourth inning and six more in the seventh. Starting pitcher Michael Gleason allowed one hit with four strikeouts in six innings of work to pick up the victory. Kyle Leon hit a three-run home run and Johnny Hay drove in a pair of runs for Chico State (1-0).

Cal State East Bay starting pitcher Victor Guerrero gave up eight earned runs and recorded two strikeouts. The Pioneers are 2-2 for the season.

The teams will continue their four-game series on February 13 with a noon doubleheader and wrap it up with a single game on February 14 at noon.
