Cal State East Bay Drops Rain-Shortened Game to Vanguard, 4-0

COSTA MESA, Calif. - The Pioneer baseball team lost a rain-shortened game to host Vanguard University, 4-0, on February 5th. The game was called in the bottom of the fifth inning because of rain. With rain in the forecast on Friday and Saturday in Southern California, the remaining two games of the series will not be played.

Cal State East Bay managed only four hits including a double by Jake Walter. Pioneer pitcher John Volk allowed four runs on four hits with three strikeouts in four innings. Vanguard University scored single runs in the first and second innings and added two more in the fourth inning. Vanguard hurler Bryce Reid blanked the Pioneers on four hits and recorded four strikeouts. Jacob Domingos and Brandon Pesante each hit solo home runs.

The Pioneers, now 1-1 for the season, will host Cal State Monterey Bay on Feb. 9 at 2 p.m.
