Nationally known spoken word artist Ise Lyfe will perform his "Is Everybody Stupid.(?)" show –– a fusion of spoken word, personal stories, photographs and other material –– at noon March 3 at Cal State East Bay.

The free performance, to be held in the New University Union Multipurpose Room at 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd. in Hayward, is being presented by the Department of Human Development and Women's Studies, and the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences (CLASS).

Women's Studies Lecturer Ericka Huggins arranged for Lyfe to perform in her "Immigrant and Refugee Women" class and for a general audience, because she says the Oakland resident is a positive, young role model for aspiring poets, musicians and writers.

"He does not demean himself, women or men – he uplifts; he can empower others to do the same," Huggins said. "It is important for CSUEB students to hear him and support an awareness of the power of sound and words to transform us."

"Now, an Oakland arts commissioner, Lyfe affirms how crucial it is to consider the world around us from a global point of view," she said. "He is an artist who expands the listener's understanding of the intersections of race, class and gender as they are expressed in the myopic view of our world through music (and) lyrics fed to us through the popular music industry."

The show will blend Lyfe's live stage performance with an interactive, multi-media presentation that reviewers have called "daring, hilarious, fast paced and sure to leave audiences thinking." He'll cover topics ranging from President Obama's ascension to the White House to absurd television shows and the millions of people who tune in to them.
