Pioneers Fall to UC San Diego, 67-48

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The Pioneer men’s basketball team dropped their eighth straight CCAA game following a 67-48 defeat to host U.C. San Diego on Feb. 16.
The Pioneers trailed 26-15 with 6:12 remaining in the first half and 31-22 at halftime. The Tritons opened the second half on an 8-0 run and extended their lead to 39-22. The Pioneers cut the Tritons advantage to 47-35 with 10:09 left on a layup by Mark Samuels. U.C. San Diego outscored Cal State East Bay by a 20-13 margin the remainder of the game.
For the game, the Pioneers shot 27.6 percent from the field and were outrebounded by a 53-35 margin.
U.C. San Diego was led in scoring by Tyler Acevedo with 19 points. Christian Hatch recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Dylan Bohanan contributed to the Tritons victory with 10 points off the bench.
Jacob Noisat and Mark Samuels each scored eight points for Cal State East Bay. Ryan Parker came off the bench to lead the Pioneers on the boards with 10 rebounds.
U.C. San Diego is 6-12 in the CCAA and 7-14 overall. Cal State East Bay has a record of 2-16 in CCAA play and 5-18 for the season.
The Pioneers will resume their final road trip of the 2009-10 with games at Cal State Monterey Bay on February 19 and San Francisco State on February 20. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m.
