Pioneers Finish 13th at Pacific Collegiate Swim Championships

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Pioneer women's swim concluded the 2009-10 campaign on a positive note with a 13th place finish at the Pacific Collegiate Swimming and Diving Championships on Feb. 10-13.
Jill Lothian had an outstanding meet as she placed 16th in the 50 freestyle (24.84) and 23rd in the 100 freestyle (55.26). Brenda O’Connor (56.79) and Sami Hernandez (57.26) finished 33rd and 35th respectively in the 100 freestyle.
Jenni Perez was clocked in 19:11.43 to finish 30th in the 1650 freestyle while Olina Wibroe-Benson was 38th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.93.
The Pioneer relay teams performed well throughout the four-day championships. The foursome of Benson, Hurtubise, Hernandez, and Lothian were timed in 1:43.20 to finish 10th in the 200 freestyle relay. The 400 free relay team consisting of Hernandez, Wibroe-Benson, O’Connor, and Lothian were clocked in 3:46.00 to finish in 12th place. Christine Gee, Melissa Grottkau, Hurtubise, and Lothian placed 13th in the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:21.08.
