Cal State East Bay Falls at Dominguez Hills

CARSON, Calif. -
The Pioneer baseball team was swept in a doubleheader by Cal State Dominguez Hills 8-6 and 5-1 on March 13.

In the first game, the Pioneers led 6-3 going to the bottom of the eighth inning. Richie Gonzalez hit a two-run double to highlight a Pioneer three-run fifth inning. 

The Toros  Steve Carrillo hit the go-ahead single to ignite a five-run eighth inning and give Cal State Dominguez Hills the eventual 8-6 victory.

Nick McManus was 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scoring double for the Pioneers. Stephen Gatehouse had two hits with a pair of runs scored in four plate appearances. Charlie Sharrer hit a solo home run. Pioneer starting hurler Paul Jinkens allowed two earned runs and six strikeouts in seven innings.

In the second game, Toro pitcher Brett Montgomery limited the Pioneers to three hits and recorded four strikeouts in going the distance.

McManus hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to account for the Pioneers lone run. Pioneer hurler John Volk went the distance allowing four earned runs and five strikeouts.

The four-game series will conclude with a single contest on March 14 at Cal State Dominguez Hills. The game will begin at 11 a.m.
