Pioneers Salvage Series with Win over Dominguez Hills

CARSON, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay baseball team built up a 12-3 lead and held off a late surge by Cal State Dominguez Hills to win 12-11 on March 14. With the victory, the Pioneers avoided a four-game series sweep and snapped a seven-game losing streak.  

The Pioneers scored three runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Levi Josewski had the big blow in the fifth, a three-run homer.

East Bay added six runs in the seventh, highlighted by a two-run single by Stephen Gatehouse and a two-run double off the bat of Richie Gonzalez.

Cal State Dominguez Hills rallied with a two-run seventh and a six-run eighth inning. In the ninth inning, the Toros left the tying run at third.

Pioneer starting pitcher Aaron Hannigan allowed three runs on seven hits in six innings to pick up the victory. Devin Grigg hurled the final 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball to pick up the save.

Josewski drove in five runs while Gatehouse and Gonzalez each had two RBIs. Grigg and Josh Rush each scored twice and had a pair of hits.

The Pioneers are now 3-13 in CCAA play and 6-16-1 overall. Cal State East Bay will play San Francisco State in a four-game series on March 19-21.
