Cal State East Bay Set to Meet Sonoma State in Four-Game Series

HAYWARD, Calif. - The Pioneer baseball team, 5-15 in CCAA play and 9-18-1 overall, will face Sonoma State (5-11 CCAA, 12-16) in a  pair of doubleheaders on March 27-28. A doubleheader will be played on March 27 at Sonoma State. The first game is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. The series will conclude on March 28 with an 11:00 a.m. doubleheader at Cal State East Bay.   

As a team, the Pioneers are hitting for a .281 batting average and have a .957 fielding percentage. Nick McManus is the Pioneers leading hitter with a .376 batting average. McManus and Levi Josewski are tied for team honors with nine doubles and 25 RBI. Josewski has a team-high five home runs. STEPHEN GATEHOUSE is batting .364 from his leadoff spot. Gatehouse leads the Pioneers with nine stolen bases.

Alex Anicich is hitting .289, while Jake Walter has a .278 batting average. Freshman Charlie Sharrer is having a solid 2010 campaign with a .277 batting average, 11 runs scored and 15 RBI. Richie Gonzalez, hitting .269 for the season, is third on the Pioneers with seven doubles. DEVIN GRIGG is tied for the team lead with 23 runs scored.

In seven appearances on the mound, Grigg is 1-0 with a 3.38 earned run average and four saves. Paul Jinkens is 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA and a staff best 28 strikeouts. Aaron Hannigan has a 3-1 record with 26 strikeouts in 38.2 innings. The Pioneer pitching staff has combined for two shutouts this season.
