Strong Finish Gives East Bay Fifth-Place Showing at Pioneer Shootout

VALLEJO, Calif. - A solid third round enabled the Cal State East Bay men’s golf team to finish fifth in the Pioneer Shootout on March 8-9 at the Hiddenbrooke Golf Course in Vallejo.

The Pioneers finished with a team score of 916 including a sizzling 288 in the third round. The Pioneers 288 in the third round was the second lowest score in the 13-team field.

Garrett Baxley led the Pioneers with a second place effort. Baxley, who shot a 6-over par-222 for the Shootout and a 1-under par-71 in the final round, defeated Monterey Bay’s Oskar Nystrom in a three-hole sudden death playoff to earn second place honors.

Jordan Cimino shot a 12-over par-228 including a 1-under par-71 in the final round to place 12th while teammates Justin Tambunting and Sean Callahan finished in a 27th place tie with three round scores of 18-over par-234.

Cal State Monterey Bay captured the team title with a three-round score of 896. Brandon Taylor, from Stanislaus State, won the Individual Championship with a 1-over par-217. Taylor was 2-under par-142 for the first two rounds.
