LAKE SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay women's golf team kicked off the spring campaign last weekend at the rain-shortened Cal State San Marcos Cougar Invitational, finishing sixth overall. The Pioneers shot 375 as a team and were led by Micalann Cowan's 18-over 90 in the only round the teams were able to complete.

Cowan finished 18th overall, while Katie Devine's 92 was good for a tie for 20th in the field of 37 players. With just four players available, the Pioneers got a 22-over 94 from Alicia Haness, who finished 25th and a 99 from Andrea Reilly to round out the group.

Western Washington took home the tournament title, shooting a team score of 312, led by first place finisher Katie Sharpe's five-over 77. WWU also had two players in their group tie for second in the individual standings. The host Cougars finished second, while Academy of Art rounded out the top three.

The Pioneers return to action March 7-9, when they play host to the Cal State East Bay Invitational at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo.
