Pioneers To Honor Seniors During Final Series This Weekend

HAYWARD, Calif. - The Pioneer baseball team, 12-24 in CCAA play and 19-29-1 overall, will conclude the 2010 season with a four-game series against Cal State Los Angeles (16-20 CCAA, 18-27) on April 30-May 2 in Hayward.

Prior to the final game of the season on Sunday, May 2, the Pioneers will honor their 10 seniors in a special ceremony. The 10 seniors include Jeff Croft, Stephen Gatehouse, Richie Gonzalez, Devin Grigg, Aaron Hannigan, Levi Josewski, Jimmy Ly, Matt McCormick, James McShane and Jake Walter.

East Bay, hitting .305, ranks fifth in the CCAA in overall batting average. The Pioneers are third in stolen bases (57) and fourth in runs scored (314), total hits (501), and doubles (94). 

Nick McManus is the Pioneers leading hitter and ranks seventh in the CCAA with a .384 batting average. McManus is third in the CCAA with 54 RBIs. He tops the Pioneers with 24 multi-hit games and is second on the team with 12 multi-RBI contests. Earlier this season, McManus had a 17-game hitting streak and was named CCAA Player of the Week.

Stephen Gatehouse is tied for eighth in the CCAA with a .381 batting average. Gatehouse is third in hits (74) and fifth in runs scored with 55. He has 20 multi-hit games and nine multi-RBI contests.

Devin Grigg leads the CCAA with 23 stolen bases. Earlier this season, Grigg broke the school record with five stolen bases in a game. On the mound, Grigg is 3-1 with a 3.31 ERA and five saves.

Levi Josewski is tied for fourth in the CCAA with 12 home runs. Josewski leads the Pioneers in slugging percentage (.645) and multi RBI games (14).

Alex Anicich is hitting .330 for the season while freshman Charlie Sharrer is batting .319. Sharrer is tied for second on the Pioneers with 20 multi-hit games.

Pioneer catchers Jake Walter, Josh Rush and Aaron Brown have combined to throw out a CCAA best 27 base runners.

East Bay hurler Paul Jinkens is fourth in the CCAA with 64 strikeouts. On April 17, Jinkens tied a school record with 15 strikeouts in a game. 

Aaron Hannigan is 5-3 with 50 strikeouts while Matt McCormick has a 3-2 record this season.
