Pioneers Drop Wild CCAA Game to Cal State San Bernardino, 11-10

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The Pioneer baseball team lost a tough 11-10 CCAA game to Cal State San Bernardino on April 23.
East Bay scored four runs in the top of the ninth to take a 10-9 lead. Nick McManus, the Pioneers top hitter this season, belted a grand slam to left field to account for the four runs.
The Coyotes rallied with two runs in the bottom of the ninth as pinch hitter Leland Sisco hit a two-out, two-run home run off Pioneer hurler Paul Jinkens.
McManus hit a two-run double to give the Pioneers a 1-0 in the first inning. Cal State San Bernardino scored single runs in the first three innings to take a 3-1 advantage.
Trailing 6-4, the Pioneers tied the game in the seventh on a two-run home run off the bat of Levi Josewski, his team-leading 11th blast of the season. The Coyotes scored one run in the seventh and two more in the eighth to lead 9-6.
McManus had a big afternoon at the plate driving in six runs while Stephen Gatehouse was 4-for-5 at the plate with three runs scored. Josewski, Alex Anicich, Devin Grigg, and Richie Gonzalez all had two hits.
Pioneer starting hurler Matt McCormick allowed three earned runs in seven innings.
The two teams will play a doubleheader at Cal State San Bernardino on April 24 beginning at 11 a.m.
