Pioneers Split Doubleheader with Cal State San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - Pioneer hurler Aaron Hannigan improved to 5-3 for the season as the Pioneers earned a split by defeating Cal State San Bernardino 6-2 in the second game of a CCAA doubleheader on April 24.
Hannigan fired a complete game limiting the Coyotes to six hits while recording six strikeouts in seven innings.
The Pioneers scored a run in the first and added three more runs in the fourth inning. Stephen Gatehouse had a run-scoring double while Alex Anicich drove in another run with a base hit to highlight the Pioneers fourth.
Gatehouse knocked in the Pioneers sixth run with his second double scoring Richie Gonzalez who was hit by a pitch to open the sixth.
Levi Josewski and Gatehouse each had two hits. Gatehouse reached home plate twice giving him a team-best 55 runs scored for the season.
In the first game, two Coyote pitchers combined to blank the Pioneers 5-0. Starting pitcher Brandon Cunniff (7-2) held the Pioneers to one hit while recording nine strikeouts in seven innings.
Ethan Chapman and Ryan Hulbert each hit solo home runs for the Coyotes. Nick McManus had a pair of hits for the Pioneers.
The four-game series will conclude on April 25 with a single game at Cal State San Bernardino. The first pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
