Pioneers Blank Central Washington in Series Opener

ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Pioneer hurlers Matt McCormick and Rich Kemp combined to blank Central Washington on six hits in a 10-0 East Bay non conference victory on Friday. McCormick improved to 3-2 for the season as he threw six shutout innings on five hits and five strikeouts. Kemp allowed only hit with one walk in three innings.

The Pioneer bats remained hot as they banged out 15 hits and scored in double figures for the sixth straight game. East Bay scored two runs in the third inning on a two-run single by Nick McManus. Alex Anicich had a RBI single while McManus hit a sacrifice fly to increase the Pioneers lead to 4-0 in the fourth.

Levi Josewski hit his team-leading seventh home run, a two run shot in the sixth inning to give the Pioneers a 6-0 advantage.

East Bay added four more runs in the eighth highlighted by Josewski’s second home run of the game and eighth of the season. 

McManus and Josewski each drove in four runs. Stephen Gatehouse, Anicich, and Josewski all had three hits.

With the victory, the Pioneers improve to 15-22-1 for the season. Central Washington stands at 6-23.

The two teams will resume the four-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
