Pioneer hurler Paul Jinkens earns Wilson/CCAA Pitcher of the Week honors

Junior Paul Jinkens was named Wilson/CCAA Pitcher of the Week.
- April 21, 2010
Cal State East Bay right-hander Paul Jinkens has been named Wilson/California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 12-18, it was announced on Wednesday.
Jinkens, a junior from Wheatland, accomplished something that has not been done by a Cal State East Bay pitcher in 33 years when he tossed a complete-game shutout and tied a school-record with 15 strikeouts in a 4-1 victory over Cal Poly Pomona. Jinkens now shares the record with Randy Rambis, who struck out 15 in a 1977 meeting with Pacific.
In nine innings of work, Jinkens scattered seven hits, allowed one run and walked three. The lone run he surrendered came on a solo home run. Cal Poly Pomona's 1-7 batters were a combined 3-for-26 with 13 strikeouts.
Jinkens becomes the second Pioneer baseball player to earn the weekly honors, joining junior third baseman Nick McManus who took home Player of the Week award on April 5. The pair join women's basketball player Claudia Nelson as the first three Cal State East Bay student-athletes to earn weekly conference honors in the Pioneers' first season competing in the CCAA.
Cal State East Bay is next in action on Friday when it opens a four-game series at Cal State San Bernardino.
