HAYWARD, Calif. -
The Cal State East Bay softball team scored just two runs for the second straight day, falling in a pair of games to Cal State Stanislaus on a blustery Saturday at Pioneer Field. The Pioneers (12-28, 5-23 CCAA) dropped game one, 8-2, before being shut out in game two, 8-0.

East Bay got started immediately in game one, getting a leadoff walk from sophomore Breezy Johnson, followed by an infield single by junior Sarah Hasenfus and a single from junior Nikki Freiberg to load the bases with one out. However, Warrior starter Brittani Weatherford, got a pop up and a strike out to get out of the jam and keep the Pioneers scoreless.

CSUS broke the tie in the top of the third inning, scoring three runs on two hits with a two-out rally highlighted by a two-run homer from Erica McIntyre. The Pioneers threatened again in the bottom of the third, loading the bases with two outs before Weatherford got out of the bind again.

Cal State Stanislaus got a leadoff solo shot from Jennifer Arnold to take a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth. East Bay finally broke through in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs on three hits after Freiberg blasted a pitch over the fence in left center for a two-run homer.

Leading 4-2, Cal State Stanislaus got back to it in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs, including two on a homer from Brittany Balenesi to take a 7-2 lead. The Warriors would add one more in the top of the seventh to cap the scoring in the 8-2 win.

Weatherford picked up the win, throwing her second-straight complete game, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out five. Freshman Lauren Zweigle took the loss, allowing four runs on three hits in three innings of work.

Game two saw Cal State Stanislaus starter Jennifer Arnold throw a quality outing, shutting out the Pioneers and allowing just three hits, while striking out four.

After Zweigle held the Warriors scoreless for the first two innings, including getting out of a two-on, no-out situation in the first, Cal State Stanislaus put up three runs in the top of the third. From there, Zweigle matched Arnold, tossing three straight innings of scoreless ball.

Leading 3-0 going into the top of the seventh, the Warriors opened the game up scoring five runs on five hits and driving Zweigle from the game. The sloppy inning saw the Pioneers commit two errors, while CSUS got its fifth homer of the day, a three-run shot off the bat of Nikky Rissetto.

Arnold picked up the win, her sixth of the season, throwing her second straight complete game. Zweigle took her second loss of the day, allowing six runs on eight hits in six innings of work.

Freiberg paced the Pioneers on the day, going 3-for-6 with a run and two RBI, while junior designated player Dani Foster accounted for two of the team's three hits in game two.

The Pioneers are set to return to action on Sunday, as they travel to Dominican for a doubleheader. With wet weather expected, the noon start may be affected. Check the Pioneer athletics website for updates tomorrow.
