More than 5,000 to earn degrees this weekend from Cal State East Bay

HAYWARD — More than 5,000 students will earn college degrees at five graduation ceremonies scheduled throughout the weekend at Cal State East Bay.

The separate commencements are intended to avoid traffic problems that have caused delays along Mission Boulevard during previous graduations, officials said. Four ceremonies will be held at the Hayward campus and another will be held at the Concord campus.

Officials said 3,755 students earned bachelor's degrees this year, and 1,309 earned master's and doctoral degrees.
Here's the schedule:

Hayward campus
*  6 p.m. Friday — College of Science
*  9 a.m. Saturday — College of Letters, Arts, and Social Sciences. Yuri Kochiyama, a Japanese-American human rights activist, will receive an honorary doctorate in humane letters.
*  3 p.m. Saturday — College of Business and Economics. East Bay philanthropist Jack Acosta will receive an honorary doctorate in humane letters.
*  2 p.m. Sunday — College of Education and Allied Studies.

All Hayward campus ceremonies will take place at Pioneer Stadium, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd.

Concord campus
*  9 a.m. Sunday — General commencement at Boatwright Sports Complex, 4700 Ygnacio Valley Road.
