Wedel launches run for Walnut Creek council
- July 27, 2010
Justin Wedel, owner of Walnut Creek-based IT company Alamo Ridge, officially announced the launch of his Walnut Creek City Council campaign today.
Wedel took out election papers last week, but today marks the first day of his campaign, according to a news release.
There are two seats up for election in November. Mayor Sue Rainey has said she will not run again, and Mayor Pro Tem Cindy Silva is running for re-election. Planning Commissioner Kristina Lawson is also running and Concord Sgt. Michael Garmon has pulled election papers but not officially announced.
Wedel is running as a candidate outside the establishment, saying current council members were "hand-picked" and they all think and act the same, according to his Website.
"It is clear that the Walnut Creek City Council needs new blood and a new vision," Wedel said in a statement. "Considering the economic challenges we face and the deteriorating condition of the city's financials under current council leadership, we need someone with a strong business and financial background to bring our budget under control and implement short- and long-term financial planning."
He says he will reach out to neighborhoods not just downtown. And says if elected he will take no payment or benefits for his service.
Already listed as his endorsements are well-known residents Hardy and Paula Miller and former resident Sol Henik, who made two unsuccessful attempts at running for Walnut Creek City Council.
Wedel, 31, graduated with a bachelor's in business administration from Cal State East Bay and began his career as a computer technician for the city of Walnut Creek.
Wedel and his wife Melissa, live in the Woodlands area of Walnut Creek. They have a daughter Sophie.
