Pioneers open season with four-set victory over Alaska Fairbanks

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Pioneer women's volleyball team opened the 2010 campaign on a successful note with a 3-1 road win over Alaska Fairbanks.
With the match tied 1-1, the Pioneers took a 24-21 advantage in the third set on a kill by Brianna Bryant.
Alaska-Fairbanks took advantage of two forced Pioneer errors to close the gap to 24-23. A kill by Roxy Neely clinched the third set for the Pioneers.
In the fourth set, East Bay jumped out to a 13-6 advantage. The Pioneers scored seven unanswered points to take a commanding 20-7 lead. Consecutive kills by Katie Allen and Neely sealed the match for the Pioneers.
Allen and Sukhjit Athwal led the Pioneer offensive attack with 12 kills each. Allen completed a double-double with 10 digs. Lauren Massa was solid on defense with 16 digs. K.C. Walsh contributed to the Pioneer victory with six kills, 16 assists, and eight digs.
