- October 13, 2010
You are invited to a book signing by Murphys Native, Phillip Hofstetter on Sunday October 17th at 11am at CAMPS. Phillip is a Professor of Art, California State University, East Bay, and teaches in the Multimedia Graduate Program. He has led an episodic career in the arts with various work in the theater, documentary television, and major stints at Bay Area art museums. As a multimedia and video producer for archaeological excavations in Yucatán his work has appeared on National Geographic television, the Discovery Channel, in Archeology Magazine, and on the web-video portal, The Archeology Channel.....
His new book, Maya Yucatan - An Artist's Journey, is an account of his experiences among the archaeological projects of Yucatan. The book imparts a fresh, multifaceted perspective on the perennially fascinating Mayan culture. One enjoys the intriguing expert photographs of age-old ruins as much as the knowledgeable and observant update on their culture in today's Central America.
Phillip's family (Hofstetters & Wakefields) was a gold mining family in Murphys since the 1920s, owning or working mines in the area. Much of the family still lives there or close-by. He grew up on Church Street-and still owns a house there-went to the old Murphys Grammar School, and graduated from Calaveras High School, class of '67.
