Pioneers defeat Mills College in dual meet

HAYWARD, Calif. - A solid team effort enabled the Pioneer women’s swimming team to defeat visiting Mills College, 102-64, in a dual meet to open the home campaign on Oct. 22.

The Pioneers won seven individual events and captured the 200 yard medley relay.

"I’m very satisfied with our performance after two meets," CSUEB Head Coach Ben Loorz said. "Our hard workouts resulted in numerous season-best times against Mills."

Sara Bonino was a double winner in the distance events, taking the 500 free in 5:31.75 and the 1000 free in 11:20.04.

Freshman Rachel Knowles also recorded a pair of victories in the 100 breastroke (1:13.17) and the 200 IM (2:22.11).

Lindsay Miller won the 50 free in 26.32, while Murphy Wimer captured the 100 free with a time of 56.15.     

Jenni Perez was victorious in the 200 free in 2:03.76. Bethany Hoopman easily won the 100 backstroke in 1:05.31.

The Pioneer 200 yard medley relay team of Hoopman, Knowles, Chrsitine Gee and Caitlin Montcrieffe won with a time of 2:04.41.

Cal State East Bay now takes a three-week break from competitive action before heading to its first multi-team meet of the season at the Bay Area Invitational in Oakland on Nov. 12.

In the meantime, the Pioneers will join the women’s water polo team to host the Swim for Wishes to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation on Oct. 30 at Pioneer Pool. Participants will have the opportunity to swim a mile and meet Pioneer coaches and student-athletes. More information and online registration is available .
