Pioneers defeat Cal State Stanislaus, 3-1, on Senior Night

HAYWARD, Calif. - The Pioneer volleyball team recorded a four-set victory over Cal State Stanislaus on senior night. The scores were 21-25, 25-18, 25-12, 25-21.
Cal State East Bay, which ended the home season with a 10-2 record, remains in second place in the CCAA with a 13-5 record. The Pioneers are 18-5 for the season. Cal State Stanislaus stands at 8-10 in conference and 11-12 overall.
As a team, the Pioneers hit for a .272 percentage compared to .148 for the Warriors. Defensively, the Pioneers recorded 61 digs.
Three players hit in double figures for the Pioneers led by Roxanne Neely with 13 kills. Neely completed a double-double with 10 digs and added 20 assists. Jit Athwal had 11 kills followed by Kitona Offord and Cara Crowder with 10 each. K.C. Walsh, who finished six kills, did a nice job passing and ended with 31 assists. Lauren Massa was once again solid on defense with a match-high 23 digs.
Cal State Stanislaus was led by Melissa Bishop with eight kills. Lianne Vicchio followed with seven kills and added nine digs.
The Warriors broke a 14-14 tie with a 9-4 run to lead 23-18 in the first set. Andrea Fett put down a kill to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead in the match.
Cal State East Bay jumped out to a 13-10 advantage on a Brianna Bryant kill and increased its margin to 22-15 in the second set. A Bryant kill enabled the Pioneers to even the match at 1-1.
With the score tied 3-3, the Pioneers went on an impressive 15-6 run to lead 18-9 in the third set. Three consecutive kills by Crowder gave the Pioneers the third set victory and a 2-1 lead in the match. In the third set, the Pioneers converted 12 of 31 attempts for a .387 hitting percentage.
The fourth set saw the Pioneers trail 12-9. Cal State East Bay went on a 5-0 run to lead 14-12. The score was tied three more times before Cal State East broke open the set with a 5-1 run to win the match.
