Three West High softball players to confirm their college plan this past week were Jamie Costa, Allison Noble and Andi Anderson. All three were juniors on the 2010 team, which won the Tri-City Athletic League title, and will play another year as seniors before heading off to college.

Andersen and Noble committed to California State University, East Bay, where they will join the Pioneer team in the NCAA Division II California Collegiate Athletic Association. They both will attend on partial athletic scholarships.

Anderson joins the team after a junior year at West that saw her named the Tri-City Athletic League’s Most Valuable Player. As a pitcher, she had a .94 earned-run average and a 17-6 overall record, 8-0 in league play. She will go after a pitching job at CSU East Bay.

“I hope to contribute, but still have to build myself up to compete with them,” she said.

Andersen connected with the college after making contact with them and meeting coaches and players at a tournament over the summer and again at camps, most recently at the start of the month, before she decided to pick the college over other potential choices.

Noble also will attend CSU East Bay on a partial athletic scholarship.

“I was looking around for a college that had a good career choice and softball. I came up to East Bay and came to a camp of theirs and really liked the school and the coaches.”

She is an outfielder with the West team and batted .288 last year, starting in all of the Wolf Pack’s games. She looked around for a college team and liked what she saw at East Bay.

“They made it feel like home,” she said. “I think they’re really good and have a lot to offer me.”
