Pioneers fall to Seattle Pacific at Sodexo Tip-Off Classic

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Pioneer men's basketball team suffered their first defeat of the young season on Friday night, falling to Seattle Pacific, 102-62, on the first day of the Sodexo Tip-Off Classic in Seattle.
Seattle Pacific, which finished the preseason with a 3-0 record including a three-point victory over Nevada, shot 61.3 percent from the field and outrebounded the Pioneers by a 41-23 margin.
The Falcons had six players score in double figures led by Chris Banchero with 17 points. Jeff Downs followed with 15 points while Ryan Sweet and Andy Poling had 13 apiece.
East Bay was led by Roshun Wynne who led all scorers with 18 points including 13 in the first half and 3-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc. Will Freedman added 10 points for the Pioneers.
Seattle Pacific jumped out to a 27-11 advantage with 12:16 left in the first half. Wynne converted a three-pointer as the Pioneers cut the Falcons lead to 42-33. Seattle Pacific went on an 11-3 run to close out the first half, heading to the half with a 53-36 lead.
Downs hit a three-pointer to give the Falcons a 78-52 lead with 8:00 minutes remaining. Leading 88-56, the Falcons went on a 14-6 run to open their season on a successful note.
The Pioneers, now 1-1 on the year, will conclude tournament play on Saturday with a 3 p.m. game against Western Washington.
