Horns of Ukiah Symphony

Ben Robinson began playing with the Ukiah Symphony in 2003, and in 2005 he became principal horn. Ben also plays with Brassmatazz Brass Trio, and he has subbed in the American Philharmonic and several other local groups. Ben studies horn with Wendell Rider, Dan Ashe and Jeff von der Schmidt. His day job is as a business consultant to retail and wholesale food companies and he serves as executive director of Raise the Bar, Inc., an organization of independent grocery retailers throughout the Bay Area, California and the West.

Bob Satterford has been a member of the Ukiah Symphony since 2007. He is principal horn of the Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra and is a member of the Golden Gate Park Band in San Francisco.  He also teaches horn and free lances actively as an orchestra and chamber player throughout Northern California. In 2004, he completed a horn performance major at Cal State East Bay in Hayward where he studied with Doug Hull.  He is a retired attorney, and is also retired from his parallel career as an active and reserve officer in the U.S. Navy.  Next year, he plans to go back to school for graduate studies in music.

Paul Hadley has played with Ukiah Symphony since 1998. He has also played with North State Symphony, American Philharmonic and Symphony of the Redwoods. Paul has studied with Doug Hull, Alicia Telford, Susann Chalow, Kathleen Faught-Farner and Liz Ward. He teaches horn and freelances with orchestral, chamber music. Paul is also featured on a recent album by pianist Spencer Brewer.

Bruce Blaikie has played French Horn continuously since High School. He has always been able to find a community orchestra in which to play, and enjoys it very much. He first played in the Ukiah Symphony in 1996, playing in the local production on South Pacific, and has played with the orchestra ever since.  He also plays with other groups including the American Philharmonic, Sonoma, and will be going to China on tour with them in December. Bruce retired from his job as an engineer with Unocal at The Geysers in 1999.  He currently works in his "retirement job," repairing brass instruments at Stanroy's Music in Santa Rosa.
