Roxanne Neely named Molten/CCAA Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Cal State East Bay outside hitter/setter Roxanne Neely was named the Molten/California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women’s Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 25-31. It marks the second time Neely has received player of the week recognition this season.

Neely, a four-year senior from Lancaster, Calif., was a key contributor to the Pioneers 2-1 record last week. In leading Cal State East Bay to victories over Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus, Neely posted 25 kills, 38 assists, 21 digs, four service aces and a solo block. In the 3-1 win over the Warriors on Senior Night, Neely finished with a triple-double of 13 kills, 20 assists and 10 digs, following a 12-kill performance on Friday in which she hit at a .423 clip.

In the Pioneers’ only loss of the week, a 3-1 defeat at the hands of UC San Diego, Neely laid down 11 kills and hit for a .375 percentage. Neely handed out 18 assists in the loss, which was Cal State East Bay’s first since Oct. 8.

All told, Neely finished the week with 36 kills, 56 assists, 23 digs, four service aces and two total blocks while hitting for a .329 percentage.

The Pioneers sit in second place in the CCAA with an 18-5 overall record and a 13-5 mark in conference play. East Bay has won 10 of its last 12 matches and is currently ranked 25th in the latest AVCA Division II Coaches Top 25 poll.

The Pioneers hit the road for the final two weeks of the season, taking on Cal State LA on Nov. 5 and Cal State Dominguez Hills on Nov. 6, before heading to No. 7 and first-place Cal State San Bernardino looking for the season sweep on Nov. 12 and closing out the 2010 campaign on Nov. 13 at Cal Poly Pomona.
