Pioneers add guard during early signing period
Santiago High School senior point guard and captain Tre' Mauldin signed for Cal State East Bay during the early signing period.

HAYWARD, Calif. – Head Coach Will Biggs and the Cal State East Bay men's basketball team announced the signing of Tre' Mauldin during the early signing period. A guard out of Lancaster, Mauldin is completing his senior year at Santiago High School in Corona and has signed a letter of intent to join the Pioneers in the fall.
"Tre' is our first ever early signee and we couldn't be happier," Biggs said. "We targeted Tre' because he can do so many things well: he can shoot, run the point, be a leader, knows how to win and is an excellent student and person."
A 6-foot point guard, Mauldin spent the first three seasons of his prep career at Lancaster High School, where he helped the Eagles to the Golden League title as a freshman and collected all-league and all-valley honors as a junior. As a sophomore, Mauldin averaged 10.3 points and 4.4 assists per game and collected second-team all-valley honors.
In 2009-10, Mauldin was the starting point guard for the Eagles, averaging 12.2 points and 7.4 assists per game, leading Lancaster in three-point shooting and ranking 14th in the state in assists. Mauldin's best performance of the year came in a win over Milken Community High when he scored a season-high 22 points and added six assists, nine rebounds and four steals for Lancaster.
Mauldin followed up his junior season with an appearance in the Future Stars All-Star Game in July. Mauldin is just underway in his senior season, where he is the starting point guard and team captain under Head Coach David Humphreys at Santiago High School.
"Tre' was extremely impressed with our entire campus community and all the people he met on his official visit," Biggs said. "Tre' came here with an open mind and really embraced what he saw."
A three-time All-Star at West Coast All-Star Camp, Mauldin has played five seasons with AAU travel teams, making trips to the top tournaments both on the West Coast and nationally. For the last three seasons, Mauldin has played for Basketball Training Institute teams under the supervision of founder and coach Robert Icart.
A four-time Academic & Athletic Achievement honoree, Mauldin is a member of the California Scholarship Federation and a two-time Congressional Youth Leadership Council Nominee. He participated in Associated Student Body as a junior at Lancaster and serves as a Link Leader, helping incoming freshmen and encouraging a positive campus environment, and was invited to the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine last summer. Mauldin is also set to earn his third varsity letter as an outside hitter and defensive specialist on the boys' volleyball team this spring at Santiago.
As a volunteer youth basketball coach, Mauldin has coached teams in both the eight- and 10-year-old divisions in Lancaster. In the spring of 2009, Mauldin was given the Volunteer Coaches Award by Lancaster Parks and Recreation for his work with his youth team.
Mauldin will join a Pioneer team that will lose just two seniors to graduation in 2010-11 and is set to return 12 players for the 2011-12 season, including four upperclassmen.
