CSUEB hosts CCAA basketball tournament

The field and seedings for the 2011 California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship Tournament are set, as the semi-final and championship rounds will be hosted Friday and Saturday, March 4 and 5 by California State University, East Bay on its Hayward Campus in Pioneer Gymnasium.

The CCAA), through Stretch Internet, will provide free live video broadcasts of the men's and women's tournament semifinals and finals. Fans interested in watching the games online can do so by logging onto , clicking the  and following the links.

The semifinals get underway at 12:30 p.m. on Friday when No. 2 Cal State Dominguez Hills takes on No. 5 Cal Poly Pomona in the first men’s game. Top-seeded Humboldt State will then meet No. 6 Cal State L.A. at 3 p.m.

The women’s semifinals open with No. 2 seed Cal Poly Pomona battling No. 3 UC San Diego at 5:30 p.m. followed by No. 1 Cal State Monterey Bay against No. 4 Cal State San Bernardino at 8 p.m.

The men’s championship game is scheduled for Saturday at 5 p.m. and the women’s title game is set for 7:30 p.m. Mike Baca, the voice of Chico State, will handle play-by-play for the men’s games, while Mike Wessels, will broadcast the women’s contests.

Cal State San Bernardino is the two-time defending men’s tournament champion after defeating Cal Poly Pomona, 58-52, in last year’s championship game at Lumberjack Arena in Arcata. Chico State won the CCAA women’s championship in 2008; Cal State Dominguez Hills came out on top in 2009 and Humboldt State was crowned champions on its home court in 2010.
