After leading Cal State East Bay to its first two-win week this season, Sarah Finlay collected Wilson/CCAA Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors as announced by the California Collegiate Athletic Association office Monday (Feb. 14). The freshman guard finished the week with 35 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists in guiding the Pioneers (4-18 overall, 4-14 CCAA) to a pair of wins over Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus.

In Thursday’s (Feb. 10) 69-47 victory over Chico State, the Reno, Nev., native scored 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field, while pulling down four rebounds and dishing out a season-high six assists. Finlay helped the Pioneers post season highs in scoring, field-goal percentage (46.3%) and three-point shooting percentage (42.9%).

On Saturday (Feb. 12), Finlay led East Bay in scoring with a career-high 20 points, going 4-for-6 from the field and knocking down 11 of her 13 free-throw attempts. Finlay scored 12 of her points in the second half, hitting all seven of her shots from the charity stripe in the second frame, and pulled down a season-high six rebounds, all in 27 minutes off the bench for the Pioneers.

For the week, Finlay finished shooting 69.2 percent from the floor and was nearly perfect from the free-throw line, hitting 15 of her 18 foul shots. Finlay averaged 17.5 points, five rebounds and four assists on the week. The honor is the first this season for the Pioneers, who last were honored by the conference with a weekly award in February of 2010.

Cal State East Bay returns to action on the road this weekend, kicking off a four-game road swing to end the 2010-11 campaign. The Pioneers travel to Cal State LA on Feb. 18 before taking on Cal State Dominguez Hills Feb. 19 with both games scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. start.
