PIONEERS HOST CCAA TOURNEY: The Cal State East Bay men's and women's basketball teams didn't advance to the postseason, but the Pioneers will host the California Collegiate Athletic Association men's and women's basketball championships Friday and Saturday.
The top-seeded Cal State Monterey Bay women's team (24-2), which claimed its first CCAA title, has East Bay players Shonetta Crain-Williams (El Cerrito High/Laney) and Britnee Lewis (Pittsburg). Eighth seed Sonoma State (9-17) boasts guard Taylor Vigil (Carondelet).
No. 7 Cal State Stanislaus has Christin Gowan (East Union-Manteca). No. 6 Chico State (15-11) has Courtney Hamilton (Northgate).
No. 5 Humboldt State (15-11) has three guards with local ties: Whitney Howard (West), Patrice Saindon (Antioch, Fresno Pacific), and Lisa Petty (Castro Valley).
In the men's field, No. 8 Cal State Stanislaus (12-14) has Dan Daviess (DVC, San Ramon Valley) and Reggie Jones (Ohlone). No. 1 Humboldt State (24-2) has DJ Broome (Castro Valley) and Scott Clark (Foothill, Ohlone). No. 7 Chico State (14-12) has Damario Sims (McClymonds), Rashad Parker (Castro Valley), Nate Appel (De La Salle) and Jordan Barton (Bishop O'Dowd).
No. 4 San Francisco State (16-10) has sophomore guard Nefi Perdomo (Skyline).
