California State University East Bay, the Nationwide Tours (PGA), Jerry Rice, Salvation Army partner to raise funds for tsunami relief
- April 8, 2011
Cal State East Bay is partnering with the Fresh Express Classic hosted by Jerry Rice to raise money for tsunami relief in Japan. The Fresh Express Classic will be held at TPC Stonebrae golf course in Hayward Ca from April 14-17, with proceeds from tournament attendance and sales going towards helping the Japan disaster recovery.
“Because we have such an internationally diverse student population, the tragedy of the recent tsunami is amplified even more at our campus, particularly by our Japanese students. We’re taking this opportunity for our university to embrace our responsibility as global citizens by assisting with the Japan relief effort,” said Mo Qayoumi, Cal State East Bay president. “Our students, faculty, and staff care deeply about this cause, with this effort being one more way they demonstrate their commitment as global citizens.”
Jerry Rice, NFL Hall of Famer, is the Fresh Express Classic host and will again participate in this year’s event. The tournament will also host a College Day on Saturday, April 16 with specials for CSUEB’s students, faculty and alumni. A special college students section will be set up at Stonebrae’s Birds Nest, located on the course’s 9th green. More information on the PGA Tour event is available at .
