East Bay runners clock season-best times at Johnny Mathis Invitational

The Cal State East Bay men's and women's track teams posted another set of quality times at the Johnny Mathis Invitational at SF State on April 1 and 2.
Senior Nancy Velazquez ran her fastest time of the season of 4:53.53 in the 1500 meters to earn 15th place honors. Nastassia Hamor also posted her best time of the season in the 1500 with a time of 5:06.13, taking 30th.
Sprinter Justin Landry placed 11th in the 100 meters with a time of 11.30 and followed with a ninth-place showing in the 200 meters, covering the course in a time of 23.57 seconds.
Tiffany Duffy ran her second fastest time of 2:31.32 to place 16th in the 800 meters, while Velazquez, competing for the first time this season in the 400 meters, finished 19th with a time of 1:05.96.
Gabriella Cruz concluded a good day for the Pioneers with a season-best 19:53.91 in the 5000 meters, good for 10th overall.
John Vergara recorded a time of 2:04.19 to place 19th in the 800 meters, while Chris Gallagher was 36th with a time of 4:20.71 in the 1500 meters.
John Erlandson finished 20th in the 5000 meters, clocking in at 18:13.46.
The Pioneers next travel to Southern California for the Pomona Pitzer Invitational on April 9.
