Gateways presents roadmap to student success, announces $1.15 million in support from Bechtel

In its first annual report to the community, the Gateways Cradle to Career Education and Workforce Partnership, led by California State University, East Bay, shared its “roadmap to success” to improve student achievement and economic development for the East Bay region.
This strategic partnership – composed of more than 30 partners from business, education, civic, nonprofit, and philanthropic organizations focused on children in preschool through college – has as its mission to “create a world-class system of education that ensures every student will succeed in 21st century careers.”
The report, released at an April 14 conference, covers initial research on student performance in the East Bay’s P-20 (preschool through postgraduate) educational systems, identifying goals and benchmarks as well as key achievement gaps.
At the conference, CSUEB President Mohammad Qayoumi and Concord Campus Executive Director Emily Brizendine also announced that the S.D. Bechtel, Jr. Foundation awarded a $1.15 million grant to support the Gateways Partnership. (Read more)
In 2009, CSUEB was selected as an anchor institution for this community initiative, supported by a grant from the Living Cities consortium in collaboration with the Coalition of Urban Serving Universities. The resulting partnership network is a prime example of the university’s regional stewardship commitments, Qayoumi said.
