College of Education to celebrate 50th anniversary of first credential offerings Dec. 12

California State University, East Bay, which has produced more than 18,000 teachers and administrators for schools in California and around the country since 1961 – when the institution was known as State College of Alameda County – will celebrate its 50th anniversary of credentialing qualified individuals at an on-campus event Monday, Dec. 12.

The celebration will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the New University Union on CSUEB’s Hayward Campus, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd. The university’s College of Education and Allied Studies (CEAS) invites alumni who have received their credentials from the university, as well as credentialing partners of CSUEB. The event program will provide information tables and networking opportunities, according to Laty Johnson, director of the Credential Student Service Center.

Credential recipients come from multiple disciplines, including teaching, reading, school counseling, school psychology, special education, speech-language pathology, and administration.

Faculty and staff of CEAS and other parts of the university are expected to attend the celebration.

Caleb Cheung, former chair of the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, will provide the event’s keynote address. The topic of his presentation is "What it means to be an Educator: My Journey in Education." Cheung is manager of science for the Oakland Unified School District.
