CSUEB to host Veterans events Jan. 25 and Feb. 9
- December 15, 2011
Cal State East Bay will host two separate events geared to military veterans on Wednesday, Jan. 25, and Thursday, Feb. 9. Both will take place in the Multipurpose Room of the New University Union, on the university’s Hayward Campus, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd.
Students, faculty and staff – especially military veterans and their dependents – are invited to the university’s fifth annual Veterans Welcome Reception and Informational Presentation at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 25. Attendees will hear about veteran benefits and services as well as Cal State East Bay’s student support services, while meeting current and former members of the military attending classes at the university.
Deborah Hansana, the university’s veteran affairs coordinator, said that RSVPs are appreciated and should be made via e-mail to campusevents@csueastbay.edu or by calling (510) 885-2612.
“We urge everyone to come to welcome CSUEB’s new and continuing veteran students back to campus,” Hansana said.
The Feb. 9 event – “Every Day is Veteran’s Day at the CSU” – will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is offered to veterans wishing to learn more about the CSU and all those who serve veterans in higher education and community service organizations. This event is co-sponsored Cal State East Bay and the other nine California State University campuses serving Northern California.
Panel and workshop sessions specifically for veterans will cover job placement opportunities, financial aid, and higher education opportunities through the CSU. Veterans will be able to meet with representatives of the various CSU campuses as well as support organizations serving veterans. A continental breakfast will be provided from 9 to 10 a.m. and lunch will be served from noon to 12:30 p.m.
“We are reaching out to our heroes in the military who have risked their lives to keep this nation safe and secure,” said Amanda Segura, director of enrollment development for CSUEB. “As they return home from serving our country, we want to inform them of the college options available and the support services provided by the CSU.
Those planning to attend should register online at by Feb. 3. Admission and parking are free.
