  • May 15, 2012

A town hall to discuss maintaining affordable high education will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Cal State East Bay.

Assemblymember Bob Wieckowski, D-Fremont, who will be joined by state Senate Majority Leader Ellen Corbett, D-San Leandro, to talk about the Middle Class Scholarship Act. The bill, co-authored by Wieckowski, would reduce the cost of attending college for students at CSU and UC campuses with family incomes of less than $150,000 and who do not already have fees covered. Under the bill, the scholarships would be paid for by closing a $1 billion corporate tax loophole for out-of-state company.

The forum also will include a screening of a documentary film entitled, "Default: the Student Loan Documentary."

Prior to the town hall, students will hold a rally at the Agora Stage featuring live music, free food and prizes.

The town hall will be held in room 102 of the Old Student Union at Cal State East Bay in Hayward.
